Our story
Honoured Muslims Network (HMN) is founded on the universal principle of Gratitude, which states, "To whom much is given, much is required."
Our story began in 2020 during the height of the Covid 19 Pandemic. While the situation led to catastrophic conditions for most, it also created a burning desire amongst others to connect and lend their support, especially to the less privileged. So Dr. Adeola Oke, Medical practitioner and Founder of HON, decided to turn her COVID-19 anxiety into Gratitude by helping the less privileged in her home country, Nigeria.
After several attempts to extend a helping hand to deserving families following her visit to Nigeria, which she had not visited for 5 years, she did not feel that she was making much of an impact. So, she decided to reach out to her high school friend of 25 years, Funmi Alabi-Momodu, Board Member, HMN, to discuss her vision. As a result, they teamed up to develop a strategic plan to support orphans and their families in an impactful and sustainable way. Their mandate was clear and rooted in a hadith of the Prophet Muhammed (SWT), which said Honour Orphans. However, their interpretation of the word to honour went beyond providing financial support but establishing a genuine connection with the orphans, to share their love and help them aspire to achieve their dreams despite their situation.
This led to the birth of HMN, designed to provide a 3-pronged benefit to Orphans by providing monthly financial support, quarterly mentoring and educational funding at the tertiary and vocational studies level geared towards enriching the lives of these orphans and empowering them as productive members of society.
In May, 2020, HMN was officially registered as a non-profit organization headquartered in Nigeria to support orphans aged 9 years to 18 years who have lost a father figure.
